Overview of the Faculty of Oriental Studies

1. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:  

Faculty of Oriental Studies – Lac Hong University was established in 2002. When it was first established, the Faculty only majored in the Chinese Language. In 2003, the Faculty opened more majors in Japanese Studies and Korean Studies. In addition, to meet the needs of learners, in 2007, the Faculty of Oriental Studies offered more Vietnamese Studies major (specializing in Tourist Guides) and at the same time initially taught Vietnamese to foreigners in 2010; by 2019, the industry will completely shift training in this orientation. Over the 20 years of establishment and development, the Faculty has trained about 4000 bachelors majoring in Chinese - Japanese - Korean and Tourist Guide, actively contributing to training high-quality human resources serving Dong Nai province in particular

and the whole country in general, has made remarkable contributions to the industrialization and modernization of the country in the trend of global integration. In addition, up to now, the Faculty has trained Vietnamese for hundreds of students from Laos, Cambodia, Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, etc.

 

 

2. INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMS:                

2.1. Chinese Language

This program is in charge of training with undergraduate degree for Chinese Language. Graduates are able to use Chinese listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation skills fluently; have a basic understanding of China's history, geography, politics, economy, culture, and international relations, have an HSK level at or above HSK 4; have bravery, confidence, a sense of community service, and have necessary skills such as Communication skills, translation, text editing, and using Chinese for working, scientific research, teaching, etc.

    

2.2. Japanese Studies

This program is in charge of training with undergraduate degree for Japanese Studies. Graduates can use Japanese listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation skills fluently; have a basic understanding of Japan's history, geography, politics, economy, culture, and international relations, have Japanese language proficiency at or above N3; have bravery, confidence, sense of community service and have necessary skills such as Communication skills, translation, text editing, and using Japanese for working, scientific research, teaching, etc.

 

2.3. Korean Studies

This program is in charge of training with undergraduate degree for Korean Studies. Graduates are able to use skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating Korean fluently; they have a basic understanding of the history, geography, politics, economy, culture, and international relations of Japan. Have Korean language proficiency at or above Topik 3; have bravery, confidence, a sense of community services, and necessary skills such as Communication skills, translation, text editing, and using Korean for working, scientific research, teaching, etc.

 

2.4. Vietnamese Studies

This program is in charge of Vietnamese language training for foreigners, including short-term and long-term courses with elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels in face-to-face or online form. Students can participate in Vietnamese language proficiency tests to obtain certificates according to the European Framework of Reference (CEFR).          

3. SOME ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE FACULTY:

Faculty of Oriental Studies for many years won the title of Excellent Labor Collective, received the Certificate of Merit from the People's Committee of Dong Nai Province, the Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, the excellent emulation flag of the People's Committee of Dong Nai Province for the leading team Emulation movement throughout the school, etc.

In recent years, the Faculty of Oriental Studies - Lac Hong University has gradually affirmed its position in the training of Chinese - Japanese - Korean majors. This is evidenced by the high awards that students achieve in national and international specialized competitions for many years, such as speech contests, speech contests, etc. nominated a number of high awards in the latest academic year (2021 - 2022):

- Third Prize of the Korean Speaking Contest of Ambassador Cup 2022 organized by the Korean Embassy in Hanoi in the southern region of Vietnam on March 20, 2022, for students majoring in Korean Studies.

- Third prize in the Southern Universities Japanese Speech Contest in March 2022, third prize in the exchange speech contest with universities in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces in June 2022 of students majoring in Japanese Studies.

- Third prize in the international student competition "Chinese Language Bridge" held in Ho Chi Minh City in June 2022 of students majoring in the Chinese Language.
