Scientific research activity has been always among the top investment priorities of LHU for many years. Thereby many applied products are researched and made to serve the community. The University established the Center of Scientific Research and Applications, aiming to professionalize and methodically organize research, innovation and technology transfer activities. The Center concentrates most of the laboratories and practice rooms along with a team of qualified scientists… together to realize the LHU’s vision by 2030, becoming the leading application-oriented university in Vietnam. In the new period, leaders of the University attach special importance to the application of research into practice.
It can be said 2022 - 2023 is quite an impressive academic year for LHU’s pedagogical team in scientific research and technology transfer activities.
More than 195 articles have been published in domestic and foreign journals, including 63 articles published in international journals, proceedings, and conferences (of which 44 articles published in ISI/SCOPUS-indexed journals).
Businesses visited and sponsored practice rooms for LHU students
Last year, the University had 28 technology transfer contracts, earning nearly 4 billion VND, an increase of 150% compared to 2021 - 2022. The Faculty of Mechatronics - Electronics alone earned nearly 2.5 billion VND in technology transfer activities. In addition, the Faculty cooperated with SMC Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to sponsor a hydraulic-pneumatic practice room worth nearly 2.9 billion VND for students. Having gone half of the route, the project is expected to come into operation in early 2024.
As a provider of technology solutions and software for teaching activities in the University and its partner units, last year the Information and Resources Center and the Faculty of Information Technology had implemented many projects, bringing LHU nearly 1.4 billion VND.
In particular, the University cooperated with the Pacific Import Export Co. Ltd., to complete the ministry-level project "Research and develop educational programs on AI and Robot technology for high school students in Vietnam" chaired by DSc. Lam Thanh Hien, reaping 2.7 billion VND. Accordingly, the Company sponsored the Faculty of IT an AI practice room. Currently, the Faculty is applying AI to the topic "Program to classify and value silkworm cocoons". Using machine learning for silkworm classification and pricing can replace people with 30 years of experience to increase productivity and accuracy.
Regarding international prizes, LHU won one Third and two Consolation prizes at the final round of the China - Vietnam Blockchain Metaverse Innovation Startup Contest, the 1st Guilin Bank Cup 2022 held at HCM City University of Economics and Finance.
For ministerial-level awards, LHU won four prizes including a Third prize at Nam A Bank Open Banking Innovation 2022 with the project "Transparent application of scholarship funds"; a Third prize at "the 5th Students with startup ideas" competition with the "Seafarer positioning system to support sea rescue" project, a Third prize at the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards 2022 with the project “Preparation and standardization of a melt-in-the-mouth film containing ivy leaf extract" and a Second prize at the Euréka Scientific Research Students Awards 2022 with the topic "Research on analgesic, anti-inflammatory effects and preparation of tablets from Vernonia amygdalina Del."
Beside the Third prize at "the 5th Students with startup ideas" the project "Seafarer positioning system to support sea rescue" won the Third prize at the BR-VT’s Fisheries Industry Innovation Startup Contest 2022
In terms of provincial innovation competitions, LHU won 13 prizes in the Program "Promoting initiative and creativity in work and study 2022", including 01 first prize, 01 second prize, 04 third prizes and 07 consolation prizes.
At the Dong Nai Provincial Technical Innovation Competition 2022 LHU excellently won 1 First, 4 Second, 3 Third and 3 Consolation prizes, achieved by lecturers and students of Faculty of Food Science and Engineering, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Faculty of Mechatronics - Electronics,, Faculty of Administration - International Economics and Faculty of Finance and Accounting.
In addition, the University cooperated with the University of Technical Education of Ho Chi Minh City to successfully organize the 6th International Conference on Green Technology and Sustainable Development (GTSD2022).
As the host, the University also successfully organized the 2023 Spring Workshop on Power Electronics and Applications (SWPEA2023) in May.
LHU ranks 5th in top 50 universities supporting Fourth Industrial Revolution
For University Rankings, the Hanseatic League of Universities - HLU, the World University Rankings for Innovation (The WURI) 2023 recently announced that LHU has been placed 74th in the top 100 most innovative universities, raising 11 places compared to 2022. LHU has also been listed in top 5 universities supporting Fourth Industrial Revolution. In addition, LHU ranks 39th in the Top 50 universities supporting Industrial Application (moving up 7 steps from rank 46 in 2022 to rank 39 in 2023).
Training and scientific research activities are the two backbones of universities, especially application-oriented universities like LHU. Scientific research becomes more and more important in the context of globalization and the rapidly developing world's trend of science and technology. In the current higher education quality accreditation and university rankings, the criteria for scientific research help to improve the position of universities and countries. The research accomplishments mentioned above demonstrate an educational unit that constantly promotes research activities throughout the University, contributing to soon helping LHU to be named in the list of leading applied universities in Vietnam.
