Faculty of Science and Food Technology (SFT) was established in 1999 under the Decision of MOET with the original name of Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology. Faculty of Food Science and Engineering has four fields: Chemical Technology, Food Technology, Biotechnology and Environmental Technology.
As soon as SFT was established, the faculty quickly stabilized the organizational structure, focused on building a team of lecturers, building material foundations to perform the task of education and training. The Dean of the Faculty for the first term 1999-2002 is Professor - Dr. Nguyen Vinh Tri, he is one of the leading professor of chemistry at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
In 2002-2007, the Dean of the Faculty is Dr. Nguyen Huu Tri. This period, The Faculty has three fields: Chemical Technology, Food Technology and Environmental Technology. During this period, due to the need to develop and expand the training professions of Lac Hong University, from 2005-2013, the Rector decided to establish the Faculty of Biotechnology and Environmental Technology (Professor -Dr. Phan Dinh Tuan is Dean of the Faculty) on the basis of being separated from the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology.
For the term 2007-2012, the Dean of the Faculty is Associate Professor - Dr. Dong Thi Anh Dao, with the goal of focusing on building and improving the training quality of the faculty.
On August 15, 2014, the Rector made the decision to establish the Faculty of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (the merging two faculties: Faculty of Chemical & Food Technology and Faculty of Biotechnology & Environmental Technology), the Dean of the Faculty is Dr. Nguyen Huynh Bach Son Long. On June 5, 2021, the Rector signed Decision No. 264/QD-ĐHLH to change its name to Faculty of Food Science and Engineering.
On November 9, 2021, Dr. Le Thi Thu Huong was appointed to hold the position of Dean of Faculty of Science and Food Technology for the 2020-2025 term, with the orientation to make the Faculty of Science and Food Technology a leading unit in training and scientific research in the field of Food Technology in Dong Nai Province.
The faculty has a total of 15 staffs, including 2 doctors, 8 masters, 5 engineers and bachelors. Currently, there are two departments existing, including: (1) Food Technology and (2) Environmental Technology in 2023.
The Food Technology Department enrolled the first course in 1999 according to the Decision of MOET. The Food Technology Program provides students with knowledge of the natural sciences, social sciences, and industry and specialized background knowledge. The specialized course equips students with knowledge about the composition and properties of materials, food additives, food production process; equipment in food processing, methods to control food quality, methods to improve food quality through research to improve taste, color, structure and optimal nutritional content.
Until now, there have been more than 500 students who graduated from the program and more than 90% of them have good jobs in the fields of Food Technology. Most of them work in industrial zones in Dong Nai and neighboring localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Vung Tau, etc. Some students are studying master's programs in Vietnam and abroad. The academic program and curriculum are continuously developed with a special emphasis on developing students' skills to meet the basic and advanced requirements of the food technology. Each graduate from the program is expected to have good professional skills, systems thinking, positive life attitude to work creatively, effectively and ethically for the advancement of humanity.
