LHU Faculty of Pharmacy updates on pharmaceutical trends at the 42nd pharmaceutical science and technology conference

On April 9, 2026, lecturers and students from the Faculty of Pharmacy - Lac Hong University (LHU) attended the 42nd Pharmaceutical Science and Technology Conference at the School of Pharmacy, University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City. The event served as a vital bridge, enabling LHU teachers and students to gain direct access to the latest developments in the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare education.

1. Innovating Pharmacy Education in the Wave of Technology

The presentation by Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan (Mahidol University, Thailand) demonstrated that pharmacy education is undergoing drastic changes to adapt to the new healthcare system:

  • Integrating advanced technology: Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Genomics has been incorporated into national curriculum standards.
  • Reducing pressure, enhancing practice: The curriculum has been streamlined while closely monitoring the development of soft skills and requiring pharmacy students to engage in interprofessional education alongside medical and nursing students.
  • Standardizing lecturer quality: Lecturers are required to undergo formal pedagogical training, utilizing the international competency assessment framework of the United Kingdom (UK PSF).

2. Industrial Practices & Technology Transfer

Practical insights from Mr. Gregoris Charitonos (General Director of Medochemie) provided an authentic picture of pharmaceutical manufacturing:

  • High standards: The process of transferring manufacturing technology from Europe to EU-GMP compliant factories in Vietnam faces multiple challenges, particularly the requirements to upgrade facilities and maintain a consistent supply of raw materials.
  • Human resources as the core: To realize the goal of domestically manufacturing 70% of medications by 2030, enterprises must possess a high-quality workforce. Personnel in both production departments and laboratories require in-depth, continuous training.

Affirming the Development Orientation of LHU Faculty of Pharmacy

The development trends of the pharmaceutical industry serve as a driving force for the LHU Faculty of Pharmacy to continuously enhance its academic and practical training programs. By strongly promoting the application of AI and elevating learning outcomes, the Faculty is committed to supplying a high-quality, internationally integrated pharmaceutical workforce.
