LHU named among 17 Vietnamese universities meeting international standards

LHU has been listed among the 17 Vietnamese universities meeting international standards, as recognized by the Department of Quality Management under the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET). This marks an increase of five compared to last year, with the new names being Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, VinUni, LHU, Hoa Sen University, and the Vietnam Japan University under Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The remaining 12 universities include: University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Hanoi University of Science and Technology; Hanoi University of Civil Engineering; National Economics University; Ton Duc Thang University; University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City; Van Lang University; British University Vietnam (BUV); University of Science and Technology, University of Danang; University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH); International University and University of Technology under Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.

These institutions are accredited by six international organizations. Among them, the most common are HCERES (High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education, France) and AUN-QA (ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance).

JUAA (Japan University Accreditation Association) has just been introduced this year. The Vietnam Japan University became the first institution in Vietnam to receive JUAA accreditation.

List of 17 Vietnamese universities recognized by foreign accreditation organizations

In addition to these 17 universities, Vietnam currently has 200 universities and 11 teacher-training colleges accredited by domestic organizations, an increase of seven universities compared to last year, as reported by MOET statistics.

Currently, MOET authorizes 19 education quality accreditation organizations, including 11 international and 8 domestic. Each has its own evaluation criteria, weightings, and costs.

For example, the HCERES standards include six areas: Strategy and governance (mission, development strategy, implementation, communications); Research and education (education policy, research, training types aligned with learner needs); Training processes and career orientation (learning environment and academic management); External relations; Management (finance, assets, human resources, information systems); and Quality and ethics (quality assurance policies, ethics in education and research).

Meanwhile, AUN-QA applies 15 standards covering vision, mission, culture and governance; human resources; financial and physical resources; research policies; educational outcomes; external relations and networking, and others.

Pursuant to the amended Higher Education Law (2018), accreditation is mandatory and periodic, aiming to ensure and enhance the quality of higher education. Universities may select an accreditation body from the list authorized by the Ministry.

As of September 25, 2025, LHU has 14 training programs accredited by AUN-QA and 2 programs accredited by ABET

In addition to institutional accreditation, these bodies accredit specific academic programs. At present, Vietnam has nearly 1,950 programs accredited domestically and about 700 internationally, marking an increase of more than 700 programs compared to last year.

According to MOET, the growing number of accredited institutions and programs demonstrates a clear orientation toward improving education quality and fostering deeper integration with regional and global higher education. University representatives also emphasized that accreditation enhances prestige, helps identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop plans for quality enhancement.

In line with Government Decree No. 238/2025 on public tuition fees, universities are authorized to set their own tuition rates for quality-accredited programs.
