LHU: Another view besides robocon

The name of Lac Hong – the first non-public university located in Dong Nai province has been well -known inside and outside the country via its achievements: the champion of Robocon Vietnam for the three consecutive years, the second winner for two times and the third winner for one time at Asia-Pacific Robocon contest. LHU - 16 years old is considered as a comprehensive university since it is not only known by medals in robot contests but also resounding in other aspects.

In addition to paying high attention to education quality, LHU care much for academic activities, offering its students chances to test their theories they have leaned and apply them into the reality.

This has been proven by prizes at “Technical Invention Contests” held by Dong Nai province. For successive years, lecturers and students of technical majors occupied various honorable prizes such as three first prizes, as three second, six third, 10 consolation in the fields of automation, new energy, automatic control and information technology in the two recent years. From there, lecturers and students of Electro Mechanics and Information Technology Faculties continued to win high prizes at Vietnam Technology and Science Creation Contest” (Vifotec for short).

Especially in the contest of Vietnam Young Science Talent Award 2012 firstly held for young lecturers, LHU gained one first, two second and one consolation. Also, for students, LHU won one first and one second. Accordingly, LHU ranked first (for young lecturers) and 5th (for students). At national contests, young staff of Chemical and Food Engineering, Environmental and Biological Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electro Mechanics have greatly contributed to build the brand name of Lac Hong. Therefore, the University was honored to be selected as the host of Vietnamese Young Science Talents Award 2012 which was held on November, 2012 by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Besides, scientific research activities of LHU has been participated actively. From 2012 up to now, the University has had 1, 630 works carried out by students and 450 by lecturers. Among them, there are 39 published in international journals of science, 140 issued in domestic ones.

In addition to strengths in research activities, the University has successfully transferred various technological products to many enterprises. For the past five years, it has effectively cooperated with businesses in training and using technical human resources. Moreover, LHU has successfully performed the model “Training, science research and technology transfer associated with business need”. To 2012, the University has signed 558 agreements with enterprises on collaboration in training and supplying human resources, carrying out many projects with high applications and producing technical products which have been transferred to businesses inside and outside the nation. Some specific products can be mentioned like the Outpatient Medical Treatment software transferred to Dong Nai Polyclinic Hospital; automatic component grills arranging and checking system to Nec Tokin company (Japan); purchasing management software to Moc Bai duty-free supermarket; ROLLER fitting machine and Top force gauge transferred to Plus Industrial Co., Ltd. Vietnam ( Bien Hoa Industrial Zone 2); three-phrase adverse current machine transferred to See Vietnam Co., …

Other research projects which have been also transferred successfully can be listed like a research on Epoxy pain compositions without solvent transferred to DongNai Paint Corporation; a study on Polymer Composite material fabrication and applications in producing explosives in Z114 factory (the Ministry of Defense); a quantitative analysis on Methamphetamine (synthetic drug) by GC- MS methods, which was applied in Analytical Department under the Southern Ministry of Public Security;  a trial of biscuit production added sweet potatoes at Kinh Do Corporation; a research on baby foods added spiny bittergourd  (gac fruit), transferred to Dielac milk joint-stock company; building standards for additives and spices in meat products of D&F factory,…

 

Besides achievements in robocon field, LHU has created a special mark in academic playgrounds. Specifically, students of Economic fields won regional as well as national awards such as first prize at National Business Starting Student Contest 2008, first prize at Trial Investment, Real Bonus 2010.

In 2012, NetRider was a competition that tests knowledge and skills of network held by Cisco Networking Academy. The contest aimed to provide students opportunities to translate their acquired knowledge into practical skills. This prestigious contest was organized in 80 countries and attracted the participation of about 16, 000 students of the Cisco Networking Academy. LHU students of Information Technology surpassed students of renowned universities to win first prize at Regional round and take second place at National competition (first prize belonged to Hanoi University of Science and Technology).

LHU tudents of Oriental Studies also contributed to enrich the achievement collection like first prize at Japanese Eloquence contest 2009. Student Nguyen Quang Tien (batch 2007) was honored to represent Vietnam to take part in Eloquence Contest held in Japan. Other awards can be mentioned such as third prize at the fifth regional Korean speaking contest held in Ho Chi Minh city, consolation prize at the 6th Korean speaking contest held by Korean embassy, fist prize at K-POP Korean singing contest 2012 in the Southern region, third prize at National Korean singing contest 2012 which was held in October in Hanoi Capital by Korean Consulate General, first and second place at Hangeul Festival 2011, …

Students of Civil Engineering have also brought many achievements for the University through National Mechanical Olympic contests.
