Dormitory or Student Housing of LHU was operated in 2006 with the aim of meeting increasing students’ accommodation needs and creating a healthy environment for students who are away from their homes. With the increasing numbers of students, building and enlarging the dormitory not only satisfy students’ housing demand but also contribute to the sustainable development of the university.
Student Housing located in campus 3 was built in July, 2005 and put into operation on April 8, 2006 with an area of over 4,000 square meters. The dorm is a five-storey building with a capacity of more than 700 accommodations, 90 rooms and some functional offices. Each room has an area of over 30 square meters exclusive of additional works and balcony.
Each self-contained room is furnished with a bathroom, lights, fans, beds, chests, …Drinking water system is sterilized by ultraviolet rays and served free for students. In addition, a hall 150 square meters in width in front of the management office often takes place cultural activities or art performances. A big TV, tables and chairs are also available for meetings, group workings, discussions and sports activities such as ping-pong, chess, karaoke …making students’ spiritual lives plentiful. Especially, internet and wifi are available and free for students.
There is also a canteen with the size of 350 square meters near the dorm. Each day, the canteen can supply from 400 to 600 servings with reasonable prices to its students. Students living in the dorm are supported with lunches and dinners with the price only VND 4 thousand a meal.
To manage the dorm effectively, the management board has assigned reasonable tasks to each member. The Board also holds weekly meetings to draw experience and assigns next tasks. The Student Housing also establishes self-management groups including active students cooperating with the Management Board and Security Board to keep track of students who are often absent and who violate regulations every day to timely warn them.
The Management Board often cooperates with the Youth Union to organize healthy activities such as “singing karaoke, football game, playing chess, playing ping-pong, cooking, singing traditional songs, Tet holiday for students who are away from their homes, Tet for Laotian and Cambodian students.
Since its operation, Student Housing has become a pilot model “Safety - Civilization - No criminals and social evils” by Dong Nai province Ministry of Public Security. In a two-year summing-up meeting, the university was awarded a certificate of merit by the Ministry of Public Security with achievement “Order and security, No criminals and social evils”. In 2009, the Student Housing was awarded a certificate of merit for its excellent collective of 2008-2009 by Dong Nai People’s Committee. In 2011, after five years of piloting, the Student Housing received a certificate of merit from provincial People’s Committee for “Building dormitory – safety, civilization, no criminals and social evils”.
Students who are living in the dorm come from over 60 provinces across the nation. There are now 800 students with different characteristics, circumstances, and cultures as well. Therefore, the Student Housing becomes the same house marking their preparations before stepping into real life. Building the dormitory with the slogan “Safety - Civilization - No criminals and social evils” is important to gain parents’, students’ and the society’s trust.
