LHU received donated books from the Read Japan Project - Nippon Foundation

On November 8, the Office of International Affairs and the Japanese Studies Department, Faculty of Oriental Studies held a ceremony to welcome the delegation of the Consulate General of Japan in HCM City to donate nearly 100 Japan-related books to LHU’s library under the Read Japan Project, aiming to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam in 2023.

The Read Japan Project belongs to The Nippon Foundation and the Japan Science Society, launched in 2008 to promote the understanding of Japan to people as well as enhance cultural exchanges on the relationship between Vietnam and Japan. Over the past 10 years, the project has donated books to more than 1,100 libraries, research institutes and universities around the world.

Attending the ceremony, on the side of the Japanese Consulate in HCM City, was Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro - Consul General; Mr. Shiraishi Hideyuki - Head of Culture and Education Department; Ms. Nguyen Thi Bao Uyen – Secretary. LHU representatives were DSc. Lam Thanh Hien – Rector; Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Lan – Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh – Vice Rector; Dr. Nguyen Huu Nghi - Dean of Faculty of Oriental Studies; DSc. Huynh Cao Tuan – Director of the Center of Information and Resources; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Oanh - Head of International Affairs Office cum Vice Dean of Faculty of Oriental Studies; Mr. Hoang Tien Dung - Deputy Head of International Affairs Office; Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Thuong - Head of Japanese Studies Department and lecturers.

The Consul General gave the certificate to LHU

At the ceremony, the Consul General introduced the book donation program and its meaning. He also expressed his desire to bring good benefits to Vietnam Education in general and LHU in particular. These donated books will be useful references for LHU lecturers and students, especially Japanese Studies major.

Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro made a congratulatory speech on the 25th anniversary of LHU establishment and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Oriental Studies

On the occasion, the Consul General of Japan Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro expressed his congratulation and best wishes on the 25th anniversary of LHU estbalishment (1997 - 2022), the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the 19th anniversary of the foundation of the Department of Japanese Studies.
